Excellent article, Nathan. Thanks - I enjoyed and learned. I look at XR as a not-too-distant future that will be as radically different to people as the early days of dialup internet were.
One huge issue I'm struggling with is how will people who shun this technology catch up when they realize it's as embedded in future society as the Internet is in today's society. I write a lot about retirement and warn people that they'll be locked out of a lot of life's joy if they don't stay current with tech. Most don't listen however, sadly, but if you go to any community of people over age 60 and most of them don't know much about basic functions of computers and phones.
Someone age 50 today should expect to live ~ 30 to 40 more years. Imagine how tech will evolve by then! And people say "Oh, it won't affect me, I'm retired." Yet they can't summon an Uber, order a pizza, or pay a bill. Wait till their grandkids want to share a lunch via XR. Good luck with that, grandpa.
Long message, sorry. Keep up the great work.
