Good article and good advice, Opher.
Living on the west coast in a very popular area, the home values have grown shockingly fast - essentially an investment with an amazing return (that's based on the total asset value, not on the money invested).
I realize it's on paper, but many people are selling and making a lot of money. That's an argument for 'asset' that renters unfortunately can't claim. It comes with a commensurate risk too, but overall the general trend is up.
