Hi Charlene. You're in a tricky spot, with fewer close connections around you than your sister. But with that said, the world is chock-full of retirees in the exact same spot as you. 50% of retired women and 33% of retired men are single. I'm sure you'll find plenty of friends. I'd also recommend volunteering (after you get past the first year of retirement bliss). I thought it would be stupid but I made smart, articulate, entertaining friends who I socialize with frequently now. Surely with your background you'll have no trouble building a rock solid social network.

I had two key motivators for my retirement: Being confident that I had enough money (but not too much which would mean I kept working too long) - and having a compelling urge(s) that would fill my time for the first year or two. I had writing and travel on my list, and still do. Since then I've added woodworking, home improvements, and hiking/physical activities.

You can do it!
