Hi Opher. Thanks for your thoughts. I started with the premise that people are bad at saving and planning for retirement (which is proven to be true in a general sense). And I asked "What would be the absolute fewest things one could do to make saving, planning, and enjoying as easy as possible. This article is what came from it. Someone with some savings is better than someone without (40% to 50% of all retirees). Some emotional preparation is better than none. Etc...
You're absolutely right that more is better, but I hypothesize that too much detail is what scares some people away.
