First, I'm glad you enjoyed the story, and took the time to share your thoughts about your father and his unfortunate slide.
You wondered about Ann's community and COVID - and yes they did a complete lockdown for safety. Several residents and staff got it (and continue to get sick occasionally) but no deaths that I'm aware of. Closed restaurants, library, pool, etc. I don't know how the other residents fared, but Ann had a good support structure (family) and they kept in regular touch and took her away for family time often. In contrast, my father in law took a path similar to your father and yes it was very challenging for everyone. Memory loss is a brutal way to go. I'm sorry you and your father had to go through it.
