I read despondency in your comments, Denise. It's actually quite healthy that you're aware and expressing your concerns though. There's no magic solution, many people find the change of retirement to be emotionally challenging.
One humble comment I can share is that retirement can IMPROVE one's health and outlook, rather than simply be a slow slide into oblivion. Having time to take walks (or any type of movement) will improve one's physical strength. With more strength, one can enjoy a hobby or two (reading, volunteering, art, card games, you name it). With health and activities, comes purpose, and that's all you need. It doesn't have to be complicated or energetic, it just has to be fun for you. Try new things and meet new people - the rest will follow.
